In the context of the Quran, Tajweed refers to the set of rules that are used for the correct pronunciation of alphabets and their qualities/meanings. In Arabic, the term tajwīd is derived from the triliteral root j-w-d, meaning enhancement or to make something excellent.

The central Quranic ayat that talks about tajweed is verse 73:4:

“…and recite the Qur’an with measured
recitation.” 

 

 

Moreover, Abu Dawud hadith collection consists of a chapter titled “Recommendation of [reciting with] tartīl in the Qur’an.” (tartil means to articulate carefully and slowly) And it begins with the narration: “

The Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said:

One who was devoted to the Qur’an will be told to recite, ascend and recite carefully (Arabic: رَتِّلْ‎) as he recited carefully when he was in the world, for he will reach his abode when he comes to the last verse he recites (Sunan Abi Dawud 1464).”

 

 

This narration and the above mentioned Quranic verse clearly explains the importance of Tajweed in our lives.
