Importance of Quran Memorization

The importance of memorizing the Quran has been mentioned in many Ahadith. Abu Al-Qasim reports that Abu Umamah, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

 

“Recite the Quran and do not be deceived by depending on the written copies. Verily, Allah will never punish a heart that has memorized the Quran.”

 

This Hadith shows the importance of not only reading the Quran but also of memorizing it. First is the fact that it keeps the message of Allah and his Holy Prophet (PBUH) intact and allows it to be passed on to another generation. The second one is that if a person memorizes the Quran, he will never be punished by Allah as he has done a deed worth so much.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have mentioned:

“A person who recites the Quran and has memorised it, will be with the nobel scribes (Angels/Prophets, in Jannah)” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 4937)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also said:

“The one who recites the Quran and acts upon it, on the Day of Qiyamah his parents will be made to wear a crown whose light is better than the light of the sun had it been in the dwellings of the world, so what do you think (of the reward) of the person himself.”
